Overview

The Thazvaari Jungle Viper is a giant arboreal serpent native to the deep jungles of Inland Thazvaar. Its great variant reaches 100 to 150 meters in length and weighs 4,000 to 6,000 kilograms. Despite its size and density it moves with surprising speed through trees and undergrowth, and its muscular coils can crush supermassive fauna in seconds. With potent venom and great constrictive strength, it dominates the canopy as one of Geba's largest and longest-lived predators.

Great Variant

The great variant typically ignores anything smaller than supermassive fauna. It stays motionless for weeks, then descends to strike, constrict, and withdraw into dense foliage. Its scale-layered hide refracts the green light of the canopy, so it is nearly invisible until it moves. It lives between 800 and 1,200 years, matures slowly over centuries, and breeds during humid, high rainfall cycles, and by regulating vast prey populations it keeps the jungle in balance. The great variant is revered and feared across Thazvaar. People who encounter one in the canopy usually walk beneath it without knowing it is there, and it decides whether they are worth noticing.

Small Variant

Smaller regional variants rarely exceed 5 meters in length and live 60 to 80 years. They are far more aggressive and highly venomous, and they kill with rapid strikes where the great variant relies on mass. They share its light-refracting, scale-layered hide. The small variant is the more common cause of fatal encounters because it does not discriminate by prey size the way the great variant does: it strikes at anything that enters its territory, and its venom kills quickly regardless of the size of the target.

Venom Trade

Jungle Viper venom is harvested in trace amounts for medicinal use, and fatal encounters during harvesting remain common. The smaller variant's venom also enters covert markets as a weapon, traded alongside Venomveil Serpent neurotoxin through the same grey zone channels that supply the assassination trade. Plant-based toxins require refinement and a delivery mechanism. Jungle Viper venom is effective on contact and requires no processing, which is why it commands the prices it does among buyers who need something that works immediately and with certainty.
