Reefgrass
Berinu Islands seagrass
Reefgrass is the seagrass that carpets the shallow reef flats and delta mouths of the Berinu Islands. It grows in dense underwater meadows a few meters deep, and its roots hold the sand and silt in place through the cyclones and tidal surges that would otherwise strip the flats bare. It is the main grazing of the Stormwader, and the meadows shelter young fish of many kinds. Where the low-lying coasts have lost their Reefgrass, erosion and flooding follow.
