Dusthorn

Coastal Thazvaar thorn shrub

Origin
Coastal Thazvaar (deserts and dunes)
Record
Geban field flora

The Dusthorn is a low, thorned shrub native to the deserts and dunes of Coastal Thazvaar and one of Thazvaar’s most dangerous natural hazards after dark. Its pale-gray branches blend with sand and rock and are nearly invisible at night. The razor-sharp thorns excrete a nonlethal neurotoxin that causes temporary blindness and numbs the nervous system within seconds of a puncture. Those affected often lose their balance and orientation, which leaves them exposed to predators that have learned to follow Dusthorn clusters. The plant is valued for its dew-retaining structure and its durability in arid climates.
