Blackwing Titanbird

Northern Thazvaar coastal giant

Origin
Wingspan
150 to 200 meters
Weight
40,000 to 80,000 tonnes
Flight
Incapable of sustained flight; brief glides only

The Blackwing Titanbird is a flightless avian-reptilian native to Geba's coastal boundary between Northern Thazvaar and the Uncharted Continent. It dwarfs the Redback Titanbird, with a wingspan of 150 to 200 meters and an estimated weight of 40,000 to 80,000 tonnes. It is anatomically winged but incapable of sustained flight. Its black plumage darkens fully at maturity.

A Blackwing can stay motionless along Thazvaari shores for years, ignoring human presence entirely, until a sudden movement that shakes the ground or a rapid dive into the ocean breaks the stillness without warning. In the rare confrontations between Blackwings it glides briefly or rears on its hind legs, and the smaller of the two yields before the fight is fully joined. It is a fast swimmer and disappears into the ocean depths to feed on marine prey. Nothing is known of its behavior beyond the coastal standoffs and its long stillness on shore, and no one has followed a Blackwing Titanbird into the water and returned to describe where it went.
