Squallrunner

Yuvaar monsoon pack hunter

Origin
Yuvaar (coastal plains, forest edges)
Length
2 to 2.6 meters
Weight
70 to 120 kg
Pack Size
6 to 15

The Squallrunner is a lean pack hunter of Yuvaar's coastal plains that hunts during the monsoon storms, using rain and wind to cover its approach. After the Yuvaar Kelek, it is the most common large predator on the continent.

It is long-legged and narrow through the chest, with a short, dense coat that sheds water and large ears it folds flat in heavy rain. It tracks by scent held low to the ground in wet air.

A pack splits as it hunts. Most of the pack drives prey across open ground while two or three wait in cover at the forest edge, and the kill is made at the edge. Yuvaari hunters have studied these drives for generations.

It is wary of people in clear weather and follows hunting parties for what they leave. In storms it will take lone travelers and loose livestock, and Yuvaari farmers bring their herds in before the monsoon breaks.
