Edgerammer

Kela coastal sea creature

Origin
Kela (polar shelves)
Length (Wild)
12 to 14 meters
Weight (Wild)
10 to 15 tonnes
Lifespan
80 to 120 years

The Edgerammer is a massive sea creature of Kela's polar shelves, with a streamlined body and a battering-ram head built for collisions that shatter ice and ship hulls alike. It is 12 to 14 meters long and weighs 10 to 15 tonnes. Named for mistaking ships for rival Edgerammers, it charges along coastal routes and shelves, making them hazardous to navigate and reshaping the frozen frontier. It is not aggressive toward humans directly but is destructive by nature. It reproduces rapidly and lives 80 to 120 years.

It is actively hunted for its rich meat and for its oil, which is used in machines across Geba, and its hide goes into durable gear and fashion; together these sustain the polar economies. The Empire manages wild herds within submerged barriers that span hundreds of kilometers. The Kela Maritime Guild bred a smaller variant without the ramming head as a dedicated food source for polar operations, one that does not destroy the infrastructure it is raised alongside.
