Cinderhorn

Manalheim terrace grazer

Origin
Manalheim (ash plains, geothermal terraces)
Shoulder Height
3 to 4 meters
Weight
4 to 7 tonnes
Lifespan
60 to 90 years

The Cinderhorn is a herd grazer of Manalheim's ash plains and geothermal terraces that follows the volcanic cycle, moving onto fresh ash fields as soon as new growth breaks through after an eruption. Its hide and horns are dense enough to shed falling ash and stand on ground too hot for most animals.

It is heavily built, with dark, heat-resistant hide, broad hooves, and two horns that sweep back from the skull. It grazes the fast-growing plants of the terraces down to the soil and moves on, and the ground it leaves recovers within weeks under Manalheim's constant rain.

Herds number in the hundreds. The Emberjaw Sentinel ignores them, but its clashes with its own kind still cost them. Herds scatter at the first tremors, and the landslides those clashes set off take Cinderhorns every year.

Manalheim's mobile settlements hunt them lightly and watch where the herds go, since a herd grazing a terrace is a reliable sign that the ground there has settled after an eruption.
