Mossgorger

Saethera moss ocean pack predator

Origin
Saethera (moss oceans, lowlands)
Length
2 to 3 meters
Weight
90 to 160 kg
Pack Size
20 to 60

The Mossgorger is a pack predator of Saethera's moss oceans that travels hidden beneath the moss in large groups, and it is a large part of the reason outposts in the Saethera lowlands do not last. A pack will strip an outpost of food, seals, insulation, and anything else organic, and kill whoever is inside.

It is long and flat-bodied, with broad clawed forelimbs for moving through dense moss and a light-reactive hide that matches the glow of the moss above it. It hunts by vibration and by shifts in light, and the warmth and light of an outpost draw packs from a long way off.

Packs of twenty to sixty move and strike together, surfacing at once from several directions. A pack that finds food will return to the same place until nothing is left.

Scout-Class Engineered can hear a pack moving under the moss long before it surfaces, and the Scout and Assault-Class communities of the south live on rock and high ground the moss does not cover. Mossgorgers are rare near the northern coast, where the few imperial outposts stand.
