Venar'Tal Kareth
The Great Conqueror
Venar'Tal Kareth ascended the throne at only a few years of age following the death of his father, Emperor Venar'Tolarg, who was killed during a campaign in northern Thazvaar and whose body was never recovered. The Geban-Thazvaari War had been declared four generations earlier by his great-great-grandfather, Emperor Vaer'Terund Venar, and passed to him with the crown.
As Tolarg's only heir he was not afforded the protections typical of his station. Court figures, scholars and trainers offered no deference, and by decision of the Empire's generals he was placed in the Sentinel district to train alongside poor but talented boys. The district had been established generations earlier by Emperor Vaer'karesh to house Ngorrhali officials at the heart of the empire and had since become the center of combined Frost Sentinel and Geban martial instruction.
He was the smallest and lightest candidate in his cohort. The Ngorrhali boys trained beside him were taller and heavier at every stage, and the instruction made no allowance for his station. He compensated structurally. He developed density rather than height, conditioning the legs, back and shoulders until he could absorb impact that should have displaced him, and drilled entry until closing distance became his opening action rather than a recovery measure. The method is consistent across every surviving account of his combat: engagement at contact range against opponents of greater reach and mass, accepting the cost of the crossing to reach a distance where size ceased to be decisive.
Near adolescence his physical and mental conditioning intensified. He studied combat, politics, court survival and the known world simultaneously, under the doctrine that the fronts of an empire and its battles always change and that the mind and body serving it must change at the same rate, so that he could adjust to any front as if he had always been there. He achieved full ambidexterity with handrail and pistol systems alongside his personal guard and full proficiency in all common weapon systems of his time. The Eyes of Venar'Tal were conceived during this period of study and implemented later as an integrated naval and aerial superiority force.
Veris'Kal Therak, son of General Veris'Kelus Hael, was his closest childhood friend and the only one of comparable standing. The northern campaign that killed Tolarg also killed several of Veris'Kal's brothers, who had marched under their father. When Venar'Tal was moved into the Sentinel district the two were separated, and they did not see each other again for almost thirty years.
He prosecuted his father's war to completion and brought every habitable region under imperial control, combining terror with selective patronage. Jeyrha was absorbed peacefully through patronage of the Jeyrhan polymath Xerik Haavu and his Haavu Cannon Systems, which also established the Haavu as the most prominent non-imperial family on the planet. Berinu was liberated from Thazvaari criminal control and assimilated by its own choice to retain autonomy. The Empire's largest naval base was built in the Berinu Islands, which shifted the direction of the war permanently.
He is the first and only emperor in Geban history recorded as having taken part in direct action operations and front line skirmishes, which he did through the closing years of the war. He relocated to northern Berinu to fight the final phase personally.
The Dominion's final position was Kharan's Gulf, held under King Feisuhosufes Hies through a siege that lasted decades. Venar'Tal ended it. Hies was transported to northern Berinu and publicly executed, and his name was struck from the imperial archives by decree. Venar'Tal then took Queen Nethelys Zahmira VIII as his wife, invaded the Thazvaari mainland at significant cost in life and resources, and appointed Veris'Kal Therak as the first Imperator of Thazvaar.
The two had reunited as adults by that point and their approaches aligned without tension. Veris'Kal held the region through annihilationist doctrine, forced erasure of Thazvaari culture and systematic execution of conquered males. Thazvaari rail networks and logistics were integrated into the imperial system, the coast was effectively assimilated, and the inland was never fully pacified.
His reign systematized total war and forced assimilation as standing imperial method, and the mass executions of conquered males instituted under it began the male population deficit that shaped every era after. He expanded the Empire's elite structures without originating them. The Emperor's Wrath and the Frost Sentinels had been instated generations earlier by Empress Vaer'yinda as the first two formalized units of the Empire, and both were expanded under his command. The Shield of Geba was his personal guard, the Sky Hammers his airship-deployed shock forces, and the Eyes of Venar'Tal the integrated naval, aerial and covert superiority force.
When Venar'Tal uncovered a court plot to assassinate his son, Prince Venar'Nethel, he chose exile over execution. The decision preserved Nethel's life, and during that exile in Ukhaalstaag, as the Velcrith merge progressed, Nethel dictated the First Doctrine of Blood Royal. He was recognized in a later era as the first known Vessel in imperial history.
Eyes of Venar'Tal
Established during the height of Thazvaar's resistance, the Eyes of Venar'Tal was the Empire's first integrated air and naval dominance force. In an era of limited relay coverage, the air and sea provided continuous intelligence across theaters that fixed infrastructure could not reach. The force combined airship fleets, sea patrols, infiltration units and covert operatives under a single command, covering high altitude reconnaissance, naval dominance and psychological warfare. Its ocean-fortress in Berinu was its nerve center and staging ground, and the visible mark of the conquest.
Affiliated elites included the Sky Hammers, deployed for shock incursions, and the Emperor's Shadow, specialists in assassination and psychological warfare. The Eyes dissolved after the Era of Fracture, though their relay infrastructure, sabotage patterns and command hierarchies remained embedded in imperial covert doctrine, and the Shadow Rulers trace their roots to the Emperor's Shadow.
He was named the greatest conqueror to have ever lived and the designation has never been seriously contested. No other emperor was crowned as a small child over an unrecovered body, trained without the protections of rank, and went on to conclude a four century war in person.
