Anetharsurevoha Asaetherund

Assault-Scout, Asaetherund

Era
Modern Geba
Origin
Asaetherund, Saethera
Alias
Aneth Saethera
Height
7'7"
Weight
430 lbs

Anetharsurevoha Asaetherund is a first-generation Assault-Scout hybrid from the twilight forest city of Asaetherund in Saethera. Unlike Osi, whose parents were already products of the mixed population, Aneth's parents are pure classes on both sides. Her mother is an elder Scout-Class, centuries older than even Aneth's father, from one of the most developed sensory lineages in the city. Her father is a pure Assault-Class. Aneth inherited the full Assault frame, seven feet seven inches and four hundred thirty pounds, along with the senses of an elder Scout lineage, and with them the difficulty of being fundamentally different from both parents.

She is the youngest of her siblings by centuries, which forced her to master her perception far faster than her peers did. Her Assault traits manifested strongly and her Scout mother's attention was divided across centuries of older children, so she spent most of her time with her father's Assault-Class family. She learned to use her strength to walk lighter and stay silent, making the Assault body obey Scout rules instead of accepting the limits her size should have imposed.

Before the Hunt

From a young age she showed the Assault-Class impulsiveness in full. She went on every hunt she could find, sought out natural-borns because they always seemed to be in danger on Saethera, and wrestled fauna that would have killed anyone not her size, only to test herself. Before she reached thirty she had learned grappling from her father and how to build traps strong enough to capture massive fauna. Her family saw that her size and drive were reaching the point where she might never bond with anyone able to keep up with her, and they took the rare step of sending her into the bonding process early. She took it as one more challenge that would end quickly.

Three Years of Traps

Her target was Osi, and he was very good. Over three years she set several traps for him. None of them caught him, and he dismantled and reassembled each one to show he knew it was there, which made her try much harder. A few times they came within a kilometer of each other, and the uncertain outcome excited her in a way nothing else in her life had: every other challenge she had faced had a clear ending, and this one did not. For three years she built more sophisticated traps and watched him acknowledge and undo them, hunting someone who could actually disappear from her. Then he stopped engaging altogether.

She did not know why. She wondered whether he had lost interest or whether she had bored him. She had never been ignored by anything, and she took the sudden absence of the only person who had ever matched her personally. She went to find out why he had stopped, and the first thing she saw was him guiding a party of outsiders away from a Palmstrider nest without ever showing himself.

A Year of Watching

She watched him for over a year as he saved the outsiders, demonstrated a hunt for Vohk'tirrel, and gave his attention to the natural-borns in the party, fragile people with dull senses who had wandered into a continent that should have killed them. She learned more about who he was outside the hunt than the hunt alone could have taught her. His desire to leave Saethera was obvious, though he never said it aloud.

She understood that there would likely never be anyone else to captivate her the way he had, and that letting him leave when she was fully invested would be a mistake she would carry for the rest of a very long life. His intention to leave was also her opportunity. She had spent her life on Saethera dominating everything the continent could offer. A world full of natural-borns with dull senses and fragile bodies had still produced people who kept finding their way into her forests, so that world had something worth seeing. It might challenge her the way the hunt had, or it might invert everything she knew and leave her the one overwhelmed. She wanted to find out.

Final Trap

She designed a sequence from the most aggressive hunting tactics she had, meant to subdue him without injuring him and to prove that a year of observation had taught her his every movement. She built it from what she had learned about how he dodges, how he breaks free, and how his body reacts under pressure. If the first trap failed, the next was waiting. If all of them failed, she was prepared to throw herself into physical conflict, and past that she would keep going until she had shown she could capture him whatever he did. It was her last chance to show what he meant to her, and she would not let it end without an answer.

The sequence worked on the fifth stage. He dodged the first net, stepped onto a pressure trap, broke free of the log it triggered, and dodged a second net, and that dodge placed him exactly where the final cage closed around him. She had predicted every escape and every reflex. Before he saw her, she spoke loudly enough for his followers to hear, so the entire party understood what was happening.

Then she revealed herself. They stared at each other for several moments, both nervous in a way their bodies had never produced before. For an Assault-Scout in Asaetherund, seeing the person you have hunted with your own eyes for the first time is the most intimate thing that can happen between two people. He already knew her through the absence of her scent, through pressure shifts, and through traps that carried her thinking. She already knew him from a year of silent observation. Now each was looking at the face that belonged to everything they had learned.

Departure

They left Saethera together with Vohk's party, bound for the Berinu Islands in search of the father of Zairen Vaul. On the journey the party asked what anyone from the governed world would ask: how could two people know they were meant to be paired when they had only just met? For anyone without the senses Assault-Scouts carry, the question is fair. For Osi and Aneth the answer was obvious and impossible to put into words. They had spent years learning every measurable detail of each other through senses the rest of the planet does not have, and never having seen each other's faces until that moment did not change what they already knew. The party accepted the explanation without fully understanding it, since two people whose perception went beyond natural-born comprehension had no way to translate it into terms the party would recognize.

For Osi, it was the departure he had wanted his entire life. For Aneth, it was a challenge she had never been offered before: a world where she would not be the most capable thing in the room, where her senses might be overwhelmed rather than dominant, and where the person walking beside her was the only one who could understand what either of them was experiencing.
