Charge at Auren's Tributary

Brannok'Drekan is the most famous Destroyer-Class hybrid in recorded history. His solitary defense of Auren's Tributary during the Warlord Eras is the most viewed broadcast of Vinscel's career and still the most shared footage in his archive. It is how most citizens of the governed world learned that Destroyer-Class hybrids live among them at all.

The footage shows a shirtless man advancing through Auren's Tributary under sustained artillery fire, carrying a Vaelstrad Heavy Array built for mounting on an airship. Structures collapsed around him while fighters tried to hold positions in the debris. His beard was coated in gunpowder soot and studded with shrapnel from rounds that had struck surfaces near his face, the fragments caught in the hair without breaking the skin beneath. He laid down suppressive fire for fleeing civilians and killed forty-two combatants before the array overheated and could no longer discharge. Then he swung it through the trenches as a bludgeon, screaming ancient war hymns, and held the position until airship reinforcements arrived and extracted him.

The footage spread across every relay still functioning during the Warlord Eras. The warlords had filled the relay with broadcast atrocities, public executions, and the deliberate humiliation of captured fighters, and Brannok'Drekan's stand was the opposite of all of it. He held ground alone, with no territory or faction to gain, because there were civilians behind him and he had decided they were going to live.

Origin

He was born in the frozen colonies of Kela, a polar frontier of permafrost, subterranean habitation, and the ruins of civilizations older than recorded history. The Destroyer-Class population has always been very small. They have almost no desire to reproduce, and their presence anywhere is unusual. His birth in a remote Kelan colony suggests either that his Destroyer parent sought the isolation the class is known to prefer, or that the colony was established near the glacial territories where full Destroyer-Class individuals are known to live alongside Ngorrhali ice bears.

As a hybrid he followed the rule the Destroyer-Class entry documents: Destroyer genetics are 100 percent dominant, and any union involving a Destroyer produces a Destroyer-lineage child regardless of the other parent's biology. Brannok carried that template in a hybrid frame, smaller than a full Destroyer but still massive by any other standard. The broadcast shows Destroyer capability in a body that could sprint, leap, and swing an airship weapon with the ease of an Assault-Class individual.

Death

He died of heart failure shortly after the end of the Warlord Eras. The natural-born side of his biology could not sustain the output his Destroyer heritage enabled, and years of exertion at Destroyer-level intensity wore through his heart, the one system the dominant genetics could not reinforce. His death confirmed that the Destroyer template cannot be safely diluted. At full expression it holds; in a partial expression it wears out the body that carries it.

Legacy

When word of Auren's Tributary reached the outposts and cavern colonies of Kela, he became a folk hero there, one of their own who had held a line when no one else would. Severan practitioners count him among their paragons. To them his violence served balance and no faction, and his commitment to the fight and to his personal code was absolute.
