Borders
Between the mainland and the southern island chain, behind the Berinu Islands
Named For

Average Depth
Roughly 80 to 120 m, shallow for open water but ample draft for the largest ships afloat, and clear enough that its creatures stay in view the whole way down
Temperature
Mild and calm, roughly 18°C (64°F) to 24°C (75°F)
Winds
Gentle and steady, roughly 15 to 40 km/h (10 to 25 mph), the calmest of the major channels

Maor's Passage is the strait between the mainland and the southern island chain, and it carries the highest volume of trade of any single region on the planet, more than the rest combined. It is the physical bottleneck behind the Berinu Islands' long standing role as the crossroads of the world, the narrow water every secure route from west to east must thread. It is also the shallowest and clearest water on Geba, so shallow and so clear that its creatures stay in view from the deck of any passing ship, the seabed never far beneath the hull.

It is named for Prince Vaer'maor, and not because he ever sailed it. Vaer'maor was of the Geban imperial line, the youngest of Emperor Vaer'karesh's twenty-nine children, and he never ruled. He was the prince who first asked why the empire kept reaching for foreign continents while its own lands remained unconnected, and he went on to establish the first formal trade protocols that opened contact with Thazvaar's outer islands. He was a particular favorite of the Jeyrhan and the Eastern Ngorrhali for it, and the Jeyrhan city of Maor carries his name for the same reason the passage does.
