Emperor's Wrath

Imperial Annihilation Unit

Alias: The Wrath

Era: Era of Imperial Conquest through Era of Fracture

Affiliation: Geban Empire

The Emperor's Wrath was the primary annihilation unit of the Geban Empire, created during the Era of Imperial Conquest under the Emperor's Directive. The unit was deployed exclusively when diplomatic resolution had been ruled out. Its function was total destruction of resisting territories through scorched-earth campaigns, high-speed mobile strikes, precision exterminations, and region-wide suppression. No negotiation preceded or accompanied a Wrath deployment.

Personnel were drawn from the strongest and fastest natural-born warriors available to the Empire in the pre-Engineered era. Operations were frequently supported by Frost Sentinel units, whose high-altitude endurance and siege capability complemented the Wrath's rapid incursion model. Frost Sentinel instructors were also embedded within Wrath training facilities.

The core of the Wrath's effectiveness was its training doctrine, which prioritized total interdependence over individual lethality. Recruits were conditioned to become completely dependent on one another. The objective was not to eliminate emotional attachment but to concentrate it entirely within the unit. Each member operated with the constant awareness of protecting the person beside them. Willingness to enter certain death followed from that bond rather than from obedience or ideology.

The culture was generational. Many members were children of Wrath operatives, including those who had died expanding the relay network. The unit was the only social structure they knew. They shared values, enemies, and behavioral norms, and reinforced these constantly among themselves. Over time, the insularity became self-sustaining. Many could no longer function socially outside the unit. This kept membership stable and ensured the culture transferred directly to the next generation.

The result was a force whose emotional framework did not extend beyond its own ranks. Members would be inclined to save one of their own over anyone outside the unit, including the Emperor, but understood that the interest of the Empire took priority regardless of personal feeling. This internal structure is what allowed the Wrath to carry out city-wide exterminations during the Imperial Conquest era without moral disruption. Those outside the unit did not register within their social or emotional architecture.

After the Fracture, the Wrath fragmented into war factions and border defense groups. During the Shadow Rule era, former Wrath operatives were absorbed into covert forces and assassination squads, continuing annihilation doctrine through clandestine purges and targeted eliminations.

New Emperor's Wrath

The New Emperor's Wrath is the direct continuation of the original Emperor's Wrath, reorganized during the Warlord Eras as a mercenary formation operating outside formal imperial command. It retains the training doctrine, tactics, and internal culture of its predecessor, adapted to a post-imperial operating environment where contracts replace directives and corridor control replaces territorial occupation.

During the Warlord Eras, rogue elements of the original Wrath formed private armies under emergent warlord leaders while others were co-opted by Shadow Operatives for destabilization campaigns. The formations that survived this period consolidated under the New Emperor's Wrath designation and established themselves as one of the planet's primary mercenary bodies.

The New Emperor's Wrath was among the first formations mobilized during the Infinite Maw Conflict, engaging Church of the Infinite Maw forces across multiple fronts alongside the Sentinel Division and Solarn Legacy Engineering. Members fought through the coordinated relay seizures, the destruction of the State of Midreach Lira, and the campaigns tied to the rise of Zairen Vaul. The conflict served as the primary recruitment event for a generation of operators who had been too young for the Warlord Eras.

In the Energy Wars, the New Emperor's Wrath operates across all major corridors. Members take contracts from Solarn and Jerhit alike, defend relay crews and burn outposts depending on which contract is active, and move between western and eastern deployments through the Berinu Islands and Inland Thazvaar. Loyalties shift with payment. Operators have shut down relays they once helped anchor and killed contractors they previously stood beside when the rates moved and the corridor changed hands.

The formation has no centralized command structure. Members operate independently unless mobilization is required for a large-scale contract. Recruitment draws from veterans, Wrath bloodlines, Engineered hybrids, and natural-born operators with sufficient skill to survive the training pipeline. Tattoos marking unit affiliation and operational history are standard. The interdependence doctrine of the original Wrath persists in modified form, though the mercenary context has loosened its insularity compared to the imperial era.

The New Emperor's Wrath is not a government force, a rebel faction, or a political body. It is a professional military formation that sells its capability to whoever meets the rate. Its presence in a corridor indicates that someone with resources has decided that corridor matters enough to pay for it.
