Overview

Hybrid Engineered are the children born from unions between two Engineered individuals or between an Engineered and a natural-born human. They inherit a variable mix of traits from their parents, and the range of what a hybrid can be spans from individuals who are functionally indistinguishable from natural-borns to individuals who carry the full physical and cognitive capability of their Engineered parent compressed into a frame shaped by the other side of their lineage. The one exception is the Destroyer-Class, whose dominant genes produce Destroyer-lineage children regardless of the other parent's biology.

Size Variation by Parent

The non-Engineered parent determines how far the hybrid departs from the class template in physical size, which produces extraordinary variation within a single class lineage. An Assault-Class hybrid with a Jeyrhan mother could stand as short as 6'0", with their strength, the density and weight of their muscle, and the hardness of their tendons being the only physical markers that distinguish them from a large natural-born. That same class with an Ngorrhali mother could approach the full 8'0" of a purebred Assault male, because the Frost Sentinel DNA that the Engineered were built from is the same genetic material the Ngorrhali carry naturally. Tactician-Class hybrids range from 5'8" to 6'8", making them the class most capable of passing unnoticed anywhere. The smallest recorded Destroyer-Class hybrid stood at 7'7" and weighed 510 lbs, and she could leap and sprint with full deployment gear as if she were an Assault-Class individual.

Trait Inheritance

Some hybrids show clear dominance from one side: enhanced senses from a Scout-Class parent, strategic processing from a Tactician-Class parent, physical scale from an Assault-Class parent. Others blend traits in combinations that produce capable, adaptable individuals who fit comfortably into roles matching their dominant abilities. Rare cases with strong traits from both parents can lead to instability in body, mind, or behavior, as the competing architectures produce internal conflicts that neither side of the lineage was designed to manage.

The Destroyer Exception

The Destroyer-Class carries dominant genes with a 100 percent conception rate, meaning every union involving a Destroyer produces a Destroyer-lineage child. The template does not dilute. It either expresses fully or it destroys the vessel that carries a partial version of it. Brannok'Drekan was one of the only Destroyer-Class hybrids in recorded history, and his death from heart failure after the Warlord Eras confirmed that the Destroyer template is incompatible with partial expression. The natural human side of his biology could not sustain the output his Destroyer heritage enabled.

Imperial Monitoring

In the modern era, no formal state programs exist to monitor or regulate hybrid populations. Imperial oversight is limited to documenting unusual combinations that emerge as viable, particularly those that were never anticipated in the original designs. The most significant of these is the Assault-Scout hybrid, a combination that carries the full physical scale and durability of the Assault-Class alongside the full sensory architecture of the Scout-Class: a frame built for breaching fortifications and holding ground in extreme conditions that also perceives across broad light spectra, detects atmospheric shifts, reads scent trails, and anticipates threats through muscle cues before they commit to action. This combination is becoming common in Saethera, where Scout-Class communities live alongside Assault-Class companions and the pairings that produce these hybrids occur naturally. They were not intended to exist. Nothing in Prince Daer's designs accounted for what happens when the two most specialized classes merge without either side being diluted.

The Future

Hybrids are in a practical sense the future of the Engineered population. Artificial reproduction is no longer used in the modern era. Every new Engineered person born today is either a natural-born from two Engineered parents or a hybrid from a mixed union, and the class lines blur with each generation as the Engineered integrate deeper into the natural-born populations that surround them. The question of what the Engineered become when the classes are no longer distinct is one that Prince Daer anticipated but did not answer, because the answer depends on choices that the Engineered themselves will make long after the person who created them has gone.
