The Field Howler is a semi-domesticated scavenger breed of the Plains Smilohound, standing 2.3 to 2.6 meters at the rear and weighing 700 to 850 kg. It thrives in refuse zones around Inland Thazvaar and Berinu settlements, its short broad skull and compact musculature suited for scavenging sunbaked waste. It aggressively protects scavenging claims with persistent high-pitched yelps and defensive calls, deterring predators while rarely engaging humans directly.

Tolerated by Thazvaari and Berinese communities for suppressing invasive species and alerting to threats, the Field Howler serves as a natural perimeter warning that no one feeds or owns but everyone benefits from. Its vocal presence around a settlement means nothing larger has moved in, and the absence of its howling is often the first sign that something has.
