Overview

The Assault-Class are the most common Engineered and the most socially integrated. They were developed by Prince Varethis'Daer Venar during the Era of Late Conquest for frontline dominance and territorial control, their frames built from Frost Sentinel genetic material optimized for breaching fortifications, engaging apex threats, and holding ground in extreme conditions. Their females average around 7'6" and their males sometimes grow as large as 8'0" to 8'4". They are fully cognizant with sharp strategic thinking, and they are the visible face of Prince Daer's legacy on the planet.

Impulsivity

Their defining limitation is intense impulsivity. This is not a defect but a consequence of the neurological architecture that makes them effective under extreme conditions: the same rapid decision-making that allows an Assault-Class individual to breach a fortified position without hesitation produces a civilian who seeks ever-greater risks in daily life because the threshold for stimulation is set higher than anything peacetime provides. This trait shortens their potential lifespan of 160 to 250 years to approximately 60. They do not die of age. They die of choices. The ones who survive to old age are typically those who found something or someone worth staying alive for, and even then the impulse does not disappear. It is managed.

Cultural Integration

What separates the Assault-Class from every other Engineered class is their capacity for seamless cultural integration. If not for their physical size, they would be indistinguishable from natural-born populations. They adopt the speech patterns, the habits, the social rhythms of whatever community they live in. An Assault-Class individual raised in a Jeyrhan district behaves as a Jeyrhan. One raised in the Sentinel district of the capital behaves as a Ngorrhali might, but with an openness the Ngorrhali themselves lack. One raised in Coastal Thazvaar carries the Thazvaari attitude as if it were genetic rather than environmental. They are loud, easy, and useful in demeanor, and they carry themselves without pretense. Their integration is so thorough that their nature only becomes apparent when conflict occurs and the physical reality of what they are overtakes the social persona they have adopted.

It has become common for Ngorrhali women to court individuals of Assault-Class lineage, which is genetically speaking a courtship between a population and the blueprint derived from its own DNA. Yuvaari men are also particularly attracted to Ngorrhali women and by extension to the Assault-Class females who carry the same genetic roots at an even larger scale, because Yuvaari culture has trained its men to close distance with things that dwarf them and win.

Reproduction

Assault-Class females reliably carry multiple gestation of up to eight individuals per slightly shorter term, a capability Daer designed deliberately and documented in his journals. The drive to reproduce is embedded without hormonal distortion, following alignment with environment rather than compulsive appetite. They reproduce commonly with natural-borns, and the planet's skewed gender ratio has never affected their reproductive success.

Hybrid Variation

Hybrid variations with natural-born populations produce significant size differences depending on the non-Engineered parent. An Assault-Class individual with a Jeyrhan mother could stand as short as 6'0", with their strength, the density and weight of their muscle, and the hardness of their tendons being the only physical markers that distinguish them from a large natural-born. These hybrids carry the same capability compressed into a smaller frame, and the only way to identify what they are is through physical contact or observation under stress, because the face of an Assault-Class individual is identical to any natural-born face regardless of size.

Tactical Pairing

Assault-Class individuals paired with Tactician-Class partners become one of the most effective operational units on the planet. The Tactician provides the strategic processing, the battlefield awareness, and the command coordination. The Assault-Class provides the execution. This pairing was key to imperial breakthroughs during the conquest eras and remains the foundation of modern relay security operations and Energy Wars corridor deployments.

Slavery

Assault-Class individuals have been captured as children and raised in captivity by traffickers who believed that starting early enough would break them before they matured into what they were designed to become. It does not work. As they mature their physical capability outpaces every restraint their captors can devise, and when they break free they cause massacres that expose entire trafficking rings. In one documented case, a female Assault-Class was captured and given enough sedatives to kill fifty men twice over. Upon waking she fought her way through the palace nude and bare-handed, escaped across mountains, armed herself at a Haavu corridor operation, returned to the same palace, killed everyone, and strangled her purchaser to death with her hair. Engineered individuals who are captured in the modern era are killed immediately rather than sold, because every trafficker on the planet has heard this story or one like it.

Competition Ban

Assault-Class are universally banned from competing in competitions that measure physical skill and capability, including the Yuvaar Hunting Games, following fatal events that made the disparity between Engineered and natural-born capability impossible to ignore. The ban is accepted rather than contested because the Assault-Class do not need validation from competitions designed for people who are not them.

About Vesselborn

Vesselborn is the story of Geba — a world that has carried an empire for six thousand years.

It begins with Vaer’karesh, who unites five nations into the first empire and fixes a common language and law. Across the ages, the empire fights and finally breaks Thazvaar, welcomes Jeyrha through engineering and diplomacy, and liberates Berinu by choice. In Ngorrhal, the people of the mountain passes lose their ancestral name and are permanently renamed the Frost Sentinels, whose strength helps secure imperial rule. The Haavu cannon systems cement that dominance.

At its height, the empire spans continents and raises relay towers that bind cities, coasts, and passes into one network. Assassinations and civil wars follow — the Fracture — but the answer is not a vacuum. The Shadow Rule forms from imperial networks and manufactures peace, ending the warlord broadcasts and taking the world back from collapse. They are the empire made quiet: continuity without ceremony.

Today, the Shadow Rulers still govern from the background while the Energy Wars — covert struggles over power grids and relays in uncivilized regions — decide who controls energy, transport, and culture.

Stories range from relay-field defenses and inland recoveries to city governance and frontier resettlement; from rail lines and air programs that stitch regions together to festivals and work crews where culture and politics collide; from Frost Sentinel memory to families choosing the safety of hub clearings or the risk beyond the grid.

This is Geba.
It began in silence.
It has not yet ended.
