Non-aggressive, it creates dangerous situations for explorers not through predation but through the structural collapse its digging causes, destabilizing gallery systems and cavern networks that may have been stable for centuries before the Darkroot passed through them.
Its tunnels form ecosystems that house other subterranean species including the Neron, making the Darkroot an accidental architect of the underground world. Early Geban subsurface expeditions during the Era of Absolute Expansion feared its activity for the unpredictable damage it caused to exploration routes, and modern expeditions treat signs of recent Darkroot burrowing as a warning that the structural integrity of the surrounding caverns can no longer be assumed.
